Viseu, March to Remember for Gómez-Escacena: three titles in one month
March 30, 2026
Mónica Gómez and Claudia Escacena close a golden month: after winning the FIP Bronze events in Helsingborg and Houten, they also secured the FIP Bronze in Viseu, Portugal. The pair claimed the title with a victory in the final over Vittoria Kurz and Nati Lopez Diaz (6-4, 6-3), having previously defeated Susanna Martin and Mar Munera in the semifinals (6-4, 7-5). “We are very pleased with the work and development we are achieving as a team – Gómez said after the win -. We continue to learn, grow, and enjoy our process of development. We are grateful for this moment and remain highly motivated to compete and improve every day”. Escacena added regarding the tournament: “We are very happy with the performance we delivered as a team”.
In padel, the pre-tournament favourites do not always prevail; surprises can occur, as seen in the men’s draw in Viseu. Jose Solano Marmolejo and Ramiro Pereyra, finalists at last week’s FIP Silver in Parma, triumphed by defeating Pedro Araujo and Pedro Graça (6-4, 6-1). In the semifinals, they had overcome Adri Naranjo and Pablo Sanchez in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). “Champions of Viseu – Solano Marmolejo commented after the win -. We are very satisfied with how we are fighting in every match and the level we are demonstrating, playing against strong pairs and showing our determination. Thank you, partner, for your effort. Onwards”. Pereyra also reflected on the victory: “We are champions. I am not sure what to write: I am enjoying the present and the opportunity to compete every weekend. Thank you, Jose, for fighting for every point and for the dedication you always bring to the court”.
