Mumbai, Rubio-Gonzalez challenge for CUPRA FIP Tour wins record

A contest at the top of the CUPRA FIP Tour standings. Gonzalo Rubio and Jose Gonzalez, ranked n.42 and n.69 in the FIP Ranking respectively, arrive at the FIP Silver in Mumbai – starting on Thursday with the main draw – aiming to secure a title that would allow one of them to become the most successful player on the circuit. At present, the two share the record with Marco Cassetta on 13 titles. Rubio comes into the tournament following a victory in Mumbai itself, at the FIP Bronze concluded last Sunday, and will look to reach the record partnering Fran Jurado. Gonzalez, meanwhile, is the tournament’s No. 1 seed alongside Antonio “Pincho” Fernandez (61): the pair have already won the FIP Bronze in Mallorca in January this year. The two pairs are positioned in opposite halves of the draw and could meet only in the final. Not to be overlooked is the duo Curro Cabeza-Mariano Gonzalez, who reached the semi-finals last week at the FIP Gold in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Among the other pairs to note are Víctor Mena-Marcos González Blanco, Alfonso Sánchez-Rodrigo Coello and Alberto García-Víctor Tur Checa.

The leading contenders for the women’s main draw title are the No. 1 seeds Marta Barrera (27) and Jimena Velasco (28): they also arrive from a semi-final appearance at the FIP Gold in Almaty and are seeking their first success on the CUPRA FIP Tour in 2026. Alongside them in the top half of the draw are Anna Guryan and Patrícia Ribeiro, while the bottom half features the pairs Ariadna Cañellas-Lucía Peralta and the Japanese duo Chifumi Sato-Kotomi Ozawa. The latter became champions at the end of March at the FIP Bronze Hong Kong.
