Bari, Cassetta celebrates new title with Gonzalez after injury

The embrace at the centre of the court at the end of the match reflects the enthusiasm for a perhaps unexpected victory. The FIP Silver Mediolanum Padel Cup in Bari, Italy, concluded with victory of Marco Cassetta alongside Spain’s Jose Luis Gonzalez, in the final against Nacho Moragues and Manuel Aragon. The success came in front of packed stands at Green Park Sport, following a balanced first set – decided in a tie-break – before pulling away in the second set, played at high intensity and closed 6–3. It marks a notable return for the Italian player, back after nearly six weeks out due to injury. The strong understanding with Gonzalez is confirmed, with whom he won six CUPRA FIP Tour titles last year. It was also against Moragues and Aragon that Cassetta and Gonzalez had claimed their last title of 2025, in Crete, and against the same opponents Marco had won almost two months ago, before being sidelined by an abdominal issue.

“I did not expect to win immediately,” said Cassetta after the match. “I thought I would need to regain some rhythm and get a feel for the court again, but we played very well and achieved a fantastic victory. Doing so in Italy makes it even more special. I thank Jose, the best partner I have had so far.” Gonzalez was also pleased: “I really enjoy playing with Marco. I am happy about this new title together, but I would also like to thank the crowd for their support.” With this success, Cassetta and Gonzalez become the most successful players on the CUPRA FIP Tour, with 14 titles each.

WOMEN’S EVENT The top seeds faced the No. 2 pair in the draw. The women’s final saw victory for Alix Collombon and Jana Montes. On the other side were Spain’s Aida Martinez and Camila Fassio, defeated 7–6 6–3. It is their second title following the FIP Silver in Caen last January. “It is a very important victory for us after a demanding tournament,” said Collombon after the match. “We thank the crowd for their incredible support throughout the weekend.” Montes shared the same view: “I agree with Alix: it was not easy at all, but the support from the crowd created a fantastic atmosphere that helped us manage the effort. We are very happy.”
