Day 5. Coello-Tapia vs Chingalan, Brea-Triay vs Josemaria-Gonzalez: double ‘Clasico’ for the titles
May 10, 2026
The finals of the ueno Bank Asuncion Premier Padel P2 will mark another chapter in two rivalries born at different moments in the recent history of the sport. While the one between Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia and Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan has now been going on for two years, the rivalry between Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay and Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez is becoming the defining feature of this first part of the 2026 season. After two tournaments (Newgiza and Brussels) in which first Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas, then Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger, managed to reach Sunday, Paraguay will once again host the classic clash between the two strongest pairs in the world, absent since Miami. The women’s final, meanwhile, will be the same for the fifth consecutive tournament.
WOMEN At 4 p.m. local time (9 p.m. CEST), Delfi and Gemma will open the finals session against Paulita and Bea: the top seeds defeated Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero 7-6 6-2, while the number 2 seeds came close to seeing their winning streak ended, but eventually overcame Claudia Fernandez and Sofia Araujo in three sets, 3-6 7-5 6-2. In the previous four finals, Brea and Triay triumphed in Cancun, followed by a hat-trick for Josemaria and Gonzalez in Miami, Newgiza and Brussels.
MEN The men’s final will not begin before 5.30 p.m. in Asuncion. Coello and Tapia, who in their previous four meetings this season had always been taken to a third set, this time left no chance to Lebron and Augsburger, defeating them 6-2 6-1 in 45 minutes; Chingotto and Galan, who in the quarter-finals had needed more than three hours to overcome Juan Tello and Maxi Arce, ended the nevertheless extraordinary week of Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi in straight sets (6-1 7-5). Coello/Tapia and Chingotto/Galan will face each other for the 33rd time since the beginning of their rivalry: Arturito and Agus lead 21-11, but the ‘Chingalan’ pair have won the last two meetings.
