Italian success at Foro Italico for Speziali and Laura

An all-Italian victory marked the girls’ tournament at the FIP Promises Foro Italico, the Under 18 event held in Rome on the same courts hosting the Italy Major Premier Padel. Celebrating success alongside the world’s top players were Matilde Laura, born in 2009, and 16-year-old Emma Speziali, the tournament’s third seeds, who defeated fellow Italians Sophie Caruso and Benedetta Contarino 6-2 2-6 10-6 in the final. It was an important victory in the same year that Giulia Dal Pozzo — who began her rise with victory at the Rome FIP Promises event three years ago — reached the semi-finals of the Major, setting a new benchmark for Italian padel.

In the boys’ draw, meanwhile, Izan Ranera secured his sixth title of the year from seven tournaments. The talented 17-year-old Spaniard, partnering Leon David Ruiz Shannon, recovered from a difficult opening-round match against Stefano Indomenico and Pietro Giovannini before going on to complete the tournament without dropping another set. In the final, they defeated Victor Escorihuela Dealbert and Italy’s Luca Maria Laguzza 7-6 6-3. One month ago, Ranera and Ruiz Shannon had also claimed the title at the FIP Promises Sanremo Padel Experience in Perugia.
