Day5. Ortega and Calvo make the upset. The women’s draw will feature a new finalist pair
June 12, 2026
Only once this season had Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez failed to progress beyond the quarter-finals, at the Riyadh P1 that opened the 2026 Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour season. In Valencia, it happened for a second time, thanks to an outstanding performance from Marta Ortega and Martina Calvo, who prevailed 7-5 7-6. Standing between the No. 7 seeds and their first final of the season are Claudia Fernandez and Sofia Araujo, the No. 4 seeds, who are also seeking their first final appearance of the year. Fernandez and Araujo advanced with a 6-1 6-1 victory over Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen. While the bottom half of the women’s draw is guaranteed to produce a new finalist pair, the top half will feature a clash between Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, who progressed with a 6-3 6-4 win over Marina Guinart and Veronica Virseda, and Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero, who defeated Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga by the same scoreline. La Fonteta will therefore host a rematch of the Rome Major final in the semi-finals.
MEN A rematch of the Rome Major will also take place in the first men’s semi-final. Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger earned their place thanks to a 6-4 6-4 victory over Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal, while Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, after two difficult rounds, conceded just two games (6-1 6-1) against Juan Tello and Maxi Arce. In the top half of the draw, Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, following their 6-4 6-4 win over Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz, will close the programme not before 18:30 CEST (Saturday’s play begins at 12:00) against Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas, who returned to the semi-finals after their early exit in Rome thanks to an 7-5 7-6 victory over Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno.
