Day4. Alonso and Goñi shine. Strong start for Bea Gonzalez as quarter-finals await on Friday

A remarkable victory has earned Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi a quarter-final against the world No. 1 pair. Alonso and Goñi were the standout performers on the day at the Premier Padel Andalucia Malaga P1, defeating fifth seeds Coki Nieto and Jon Sanz 6-3 3-6 6-3. The No. 11 seeds will now take on Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, winners of the last four Premier Padel tournaments, who progressed with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Tolito Aguirre and Alex Arroyo. Alonso and Goñi are the only pair seeded outside the top eight to reach the quarter-finals, which will begin on Friday at 10:00 CEST. The remaining three quarter-finals follow the draw order: Paquito Navarro and Martin Di Nenno, after a 6-1 6-4 win over Rodriguez/De Pascual, will face Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas, who advanced following the retirement of Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini. In the bottom half, all victories came in straight sets: Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger will meet Momo Gonzalez and Lucas Campagnolo, who defeated Javi Garcia and José Jimenez 6-0 6-0. Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, winners 6-2 6-3 against Juan Tello and Maxi Arce, will face Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal.

 

WOMEN Bea Gonzalez was the most eagerly awaited player in the women’s round of 16. The Malaga champion opened her campaign at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena alongside Paula Josemaria with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Jessica Castelló and Marta Talavan, earning a quarter-final against Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga, who defeated Giorgia Marchetti and Lara Arruabarrena 7-6 6-3. In the bottom half, the other quarter-final will feature Marina Guinart and Ale Alonso (7) against qualifiers Ariadna Cañellas and Amanda Lopez, who overcame lucky losers Patri Martinez and Claudia Escacena. The top half unfolded according to the seedings: after a 6-2 6-3 win over Lorena Rufo and Victoria Iglesias, Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay will face Tamara Icardo and Claudia Jensen, while Claudia Fernandez and Sofia Araujo (6-2 6-0 against Alix Collombon and Ksenia Sharifova) will meet Marta Ortega and Martina Calvo. Fernandez and Calvo will be rivals on Friday before becoming partners from the Pretoria P1 onwards.
