Day1, Germany and Great Britain make perfect starts in Madrid. Great debut for Denmark

MADRID – Two wins on the opening day and top spot in their respective groups. The first day of the FIP World Cup Qualifiers Europe could not have started better for Germany, who recorded two important victories: the women’s team defeated Hungary, while the men’s team beat Georgia, with both matches ending 3-0. Great Britain also made a strong start on Day 1. The men’s team secured a 3-0 win over Austria, while the women’s team also recorded a 3-0 victory against Norway, thanks to a win for Gibson/Rose in the first match and victories for the pairs De La Mare/Nicolas and Tordoff/Phillips in the second and third matches respectively.

 

MEN’S Germany and Great Britain were not the only nations to open their men’s campaign with a 3-0 victory. With the same scoreline, the Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, Belgium, Ukraine, Denmark and Croatia defeated their opponents on their Madrid debut. In Group D, Bulgaria secured a 2-1 victory over Finland, thanks to wins for Nokolov/Popov and Neykov/Niv in the first two matches. Romania also recorded a victory against Greece: after winning the first two matches with Coman/Baboian and Zaharia/Nedulcu, the duo Popescu/Serbanescu were unable to overcome the Greek pair Chalavazis-Theodorou in the final match.

 

WOMEN’S The Danish women’s team made a convincing start with a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic, thanks to wins for Alipieva/Haxen, Wiese/Skov and Tranberg/Ferrigno. Greece also recorded a 3-0 victory over Bulgaria to move to the top of Group F. In the same group, Ireland defeated Slovenia 2-1. In Group E, Romania and Croatia defeated Georgia and Ukraine respectively, both by a score of 2-1. The Swiss women’s team also made a winning start against Lithuania, with the decisive third match won by the pair Rey-Rey Guenat.

 

DAY 2 SCHEDULE On the second day of the European qualifying tournament for the upcoming FIP World Cup, to be held in Qatar from 2 to 7 November, 19 matches will be played. Play will begin at 9 am local time with nine matches. Among the women’s matches, Czech Republic-Austria, Türkiye-Hungary and Greece-Ireland are among those to watch. The ten men’s matches that will conclude Day 2 will begin at 12 pm local time at the earliest. Fixtures include Ireland-Poland, Cyprus-Serbia and Ukraine-Greece.
