Day2. Libaak-Alfonso, double joy: into the round of 16 in Düsseldorf and selected for the FIP World Cup with Argentina

Tino Libaak and Gonza Alfonso played just one match at CASTELLO in Düsseldorf, but they celebrated twice. On court, the two Argentinians defeated Javi Leal and Fran Guerrero for the second time in a row — after Rotterdam, although that time it was in the round of 16 — winning 3-6 7-6 7-5. On the same day, their selection for Argentina’s squad for the FIP World Cup, taking place from 2 to 7 November in Doha (Qatar), was also officially confirmed. Double joy for Tino and Gonza, who will return to court today for the round of 16 against qualifiers José Solano Marmolejo and Ramiro Pereyra. Today will also see the tournament debuts of the world’s strongest players: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, winners in Rotterdam last Sunday, will face José Diestro and Marc Sintes, while defending champions Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan will take on Javi Garrido and Juani De Pascual.

WOMEN In the women’s draw, Marta Barrera and Jana Montes will be the first opponents for Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay. Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez will face Sofia Saiz and Marta Talavan as their first obstacle on the path to winning a title that has eluded them since Valladolid. Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero, who have lifted the last two trophies in Paris and Rotterdam, will face Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio, while qualifiers Noemi Aguilar and Claudia Escacena will take on Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo.

The Düsseldorf experience of the local wild cards at the CUPRA Germany P2 also came to an end to applause: Agustin Reca (alongside Spaniard Victor Tur Checa), Lena Pluemer/Katharina Hering and Matthias Wunner/Johannes Lindmeyer.
