Day4, Indonesia fly to Doha: stunning win over Japan. Egypt’s women also qualify

KUWAIT CITY – It was a memorable day for Indonesia’s women, who defeated Japan in the decisive tie of the FIP World Cup Africa-Asia Qualifiers to secure their place at the World Cup in Qatar. The victory over Japan, who had beaten Indonesia in the gold medal match at the Asian Games just a month earlier and won the FIP Asia Padel Cup 2025, underlines the progress of Indonesian padel. In the opening match of the tie, Putria/Sabatini defeated Kitao/Kutsuna (4-6, 6-4, 6-2), before Japan levelled the score as Tokumoto/Kushima beat Armini/Kusuma (6-2, 6-3). Sabrina/Gumulya then secured Indonesia’s qualification with a straight-sets victory over Ozawa/Tsukamoto (6-4, 6-3). Egypt claimed the other available place at the World Cup in Qatar by winning the first two matches of their tie against Tunisia. Faidallah/El Halaby defeated Jeribi/Hamrouni (6-3, 6-4), while Tawfik/El Nimr beat Chamli/Allani (6-4, 6-1).

In the men’s competition, a further day will be needed to determine whether Australia or Egypt will claim the final place available for the FIP World Cup 2026, considering the qualification places allocated across both the men’s and women’s competitions. In the semi-final played on Day4, Australia defeated Morocco thanks to victories for Bechard/Melisi over Reda/Fertat (6-4, 6-4) and Velickovic/Benzal over Mekouar/Sakkat (6-2, 6-1). In the other semi-final, Egypt, who are aiming to qualify in both the men’s and women’s competitions, beat Kuwait. Zaghloul/Wakim first defeated Redha/Behbehani in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 6-3), before sealed the tie with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Shams/Muhammad.

DAY 5 SCHEDULE The final day of the FIP World Cup Asia-Africa Qualifiers will feature only the final for the last available place in Doha. The World Cup will take place from 2 to 7 November. Australia-Egypt will start no earlier than 2 pm local time. The match will be available to watch via livestream on the International Padel Federation’s YouTube channel.
