Joinville, Celebration for Jimena Diaz with First CUPRA FIP Tour Title

The FIP Bronze in Joinville will remain a memorable event for Jimena Diaz. At 18 years old, the Spaniard secured her first title on the CUPRA FIP Tour: partnering with Ainize Santamaria, Diaz defeated Manuela Schuck and Cristina Cirna in the final, overturning the result after losing the first set in a tie-break (6-7 7-6 6-2). Their opponents had entered the tournament among the favourites for the title and had demonstrated their form in the semi-final, where they eliminated the top seeds Camila Ramme and Catarina Santos (7-5 4-6 6-0). The champions reached the final thanks to their victory over Alessandra Abbud and Fernanda Abarzúa (6-3 6-2).

I am very happy to have won my first title after some tough matches – Diaz said following her victory -. We are extremely proud of the level we displayed and the mental strength we showed in difficult moments. Personally, I am pleased that the daily work is beginning to show on court” Santamaria also commented on the success: “After four very challenging matches, we managed to become champions. We experienced ups and downs, difficult moments, but we continued to fight and believe we could win. The final lasted over three hours, and we congratulate our opponents for their performance”.

Santamaria had already won a FIP Bronze title in her career: the Denia event in Spain last November, where she partnered with the Italian Giorgia Rosi. In February, the 2005-born player reached the final of the FIP Bronze in the Valencian Community. This season, Diaz had also previously reached a final, at the FIP Bronze in Melbourne in early January.
