Abbate and Montiel aim for a “treble” in Cyprus

Winning a third consecutive tournament: this is the objective with which Flavio Abbate and Álvaro Montiel, No. 84 and 85 in the FIP Ranking, arrive at the FIP Silver in Cyprus, following their victories in the two FIP Bronze events held in this country over the past two weeks. Their main rivals for the title are Enrique Goenaga (56) and Andrés Fernández Lancha (59), who are seeking to repeat their success after last Sunday’s triumph at the FIP Bronze Isla de La Palma in Spain. The latter are the No. 1 seeds and are placed in the top half of the draw alongside Guillem Figuerola and Roberto Belmont. Abbate and Montiel, meanwhile, are in the opposite half, which also features Facundo Domínguez and Teo Zapata. Also in focus in Cyprus are Simone Cremona and Sten Richters, winners of the FIP Bronze and Silver events in Melbourne in January, as well as Thomas Leygue and Diego Dorta.

The pair formed by Jimena Velasco (28) and Marta Barrera (27) lead the women’s main draw. The No. 1 seeds aim to become tournament champions once again after reaching the round of 16 at the Premier Padel P2 in Brussels and securing victory at the FIP Silver in Mumbai in mid-April. Challenging them for the title is the pair that triumphed last week at the FIP Bronze Cyprus II: Victoria Kurz (77) and Nati López Díaz (69). Among the potential contenders are also Marta Arellano and Rebeca López, who have already claimed two titles on the circuit this year: the FIP Bronze events in Kaunas (Lithuania) and Alexandria (Egypt). Also entered are Ana Domínguez and Carlotta Casali.
