Double victory in Cyprus for Abbate–Montiel pair
April 27, 2026
Third title of the year on the CUPRA FIP Tour, and second victory in two weeks in Cyprus. This is how the weekend can be summarised for the winners of the FIP Bronze Cyprus II, Flavio Abbate and Alvaro Montiel, No. 81 and No. 86 in the FIP Ranking. The pair, after defeating Guillem Figuerola and Roberto Belmont (6-3 6-2) in the semi-finals, overcame the top seeds, Luis Hernández and Enzo Jensen, in the match for the title (7-6 6-1). The winners did not drop a single set throughout the tournament. Hernández and Jensen last week had achieved a notable victory against Leo Augsburger and Juan Lebrón in the round of 16 of the Premier Padel P2 in Newgiza, Egypt. For Abbate this was an important success as it allows him to remain at the top of the all-time wins ranking on this circuit with 14 victories, alongside compatriot Marco Cassetta and the Spaniards Gonzalo Rubio and José Luis González. “Back-to-back winners in Cyprus” commented Abbate after the triumph.
In the women’s draw there was a rematch. After losing in the final to Claudia Escacena and Mónica Gómez at the FIP Bronze events in Viseu and Houten last March, Nati López Díaz and Victoria Kurz were able to gain their revenge by defeating them in the final of the Cyprus tournament in three sets (6-4 6-7 6-0). In the semi-finals, the champions had defeated the pair of Lucía Dioniso Laureano and Claudia Gáspár (6-7 6-1 7-6), while in the quarter-finals they had overcome Maaike Betz and Angelina Neizvestnaya (6-2 6-3). For both López and Kurz, the title secured this weekend was their first of the year on the CUPRA FIP Tour.
