Luini and Mosca claim surprise triumph in Paraguay

The women’s draw of the FIP Bronze Paraguay, held in Asunción, concluded with the surprise victory of Argentina’s Maria Belen Mosca and Sofia Luini. The two players, who were not among the tournament’s seeded pairs, secured the first title of their careers on the CUPRA FIP Tour without conceding a single set to their opponents. The champions, after defeating Julia Giusti Gomes and Gabriela Menna Barretto in the semi-finals (6-3 7-6), went on to overcome the tournament’s top seeds, Catalina Arancibia and Kimberley Ahumada Carrasco, convincingly in the final (6-2 6-3). The best result achieved by Mosca and Luini on this circuit in 2026 had previously been a round of 16 finish at the FIP Bronze in Joinville, Brazil.

In the men’s main draw, by contrast, there was complete dominance from the top seeds, Renzo Nuñez and Javi Valdes. In the final, the champions defeated Octavio and Mateo Alvarez (7-6 6-2), having earlier overcome Santino Contreras and Naim Díaz in the semi-finals (7-6 6-1). For both players, the title in Paraguay represents their first of the year on the CUPRA FIP Tour. Like the women’s champions, they also triumphed without dropping a single set. Earlier this season, Valdes and Nuñez had been finalists at the FIP Bronze in San Antonio, Chile.
