There is no better way to begin a new partnership than by winning on debut. Andrés Fernández Lancha and Enrique Goenaga demonstrated this by claiming the title at the FIP Bronze Aquahobby Isla de la Palma, their first tournament played together. The champions defeated Emilio Sanchez and Alberto García in the title match (6-3 7-5), having previously overcome Alejandro Calvo and Samuel Rivas Garcia in the semi-finals (6-3 6-2). For both winners, the title secured in Spain represents their first of the year on the CUPRA FIP Tour. Last week, Fernández Lancha had reached the final at the FIP Bronze in Seville, while Goenaga had advanced to the round of 16 at the Premier Padel P2 in Newgiza, Egypt. “Champions -. said Goenaga after the victory – We have made an excellent start to our journey together. I am pleased we began with a win. Now we continue to work”. Fernández Lancha also commented on the triumph: “Starting like this is a pleasure. Playing alongside you is a real privilege for me. We want to improve and give 100%. It truly feels like we are beginning to see the light.”
Following their two victories in Melbourne at the start of January, Nerea Guerra and Carla Fernandez, born in 2007, have secured their third title of the year. In the final, the champions defeated the surprise pair of the weekend, María Delgado and Susana Martín, in three sets (6-3 3-6 6-2). The latter were unseeded in the tournament. On their path to the title, the winners had defeated Ana Varo and Janine Hemmes in the semi-finals (6-2 6-3). “Winning at home is always special – said Guerra after the victory -. Carla, we always have great fun playing together”. Fernandez also commented on the result: “Yes, we are champions. I am proud of the work of the entire team throughout this journey”.
