Mumbai, Barrera–Velasco dominate in India

Title secured and only four games conceded to their opponents throughout the tournament: this summarises the weekend of Marta Barrera and Jimena Velasco at the FIP Silver in Mumbai. The pair claimed victory by defeating Ariadna Cañellas and Lucía Peralta in the final (6-1 6-2), having previously overcome Silvia López and Fatma Al Nabhani in the semi-finals (6-0 6-1). For them, this marks their first title of the year on the CUPRA FIP Tour, achieved one week after reaching the semi-finals of the FIP Gold in Almaty.

In the men’s draw, Alfonso Sánchez and Rodrigo Coello became the new champions in Mumbai following their final victory over Víctor Mena and Marcos González Blanco. The pair secured the title at the end of a closely contested final decided by a third-set tie-break (7-6 3-6 7-6). In the semi-finals, the champions also defeated one of the tournament’s favoured pairs: Gonzalo Rubio, winner of last week’s FIP Bronze in Mumbai, and Fran Jurado (7-6 6-3). For Coello and Sánchez as well, as in the case of the women’s champions, the title won in India represents their first success of the year on the circuit.
