Gran Canaria, Eugenio wins home tournament with Fassio

Winning is always special; doing so at home is even more so. Raquel Eugenio, world No. 23 in the FIP Ranking, knows this well, as she was crowned champion alongside Martina Fassio (24) at the FIP Silver BMW Marmotor 26th Anniversary Club La Calzada in Gran Canaria, her birthplace. The tournament champions lifted the title following their victory in the final against Lucía Martínez (38) and Águeda Pérez Ortiz (40) in three sets (4-6 6-3 6-2). For the champions, the title in Gran Canaria was their second together this year: they had already won the FIP Silver in Nola, Italy, in March. In addition, Eugenio has claimed two further titles in 2026: the FIP Platinum in Marseille and the FIP Silver in Parma, both played alongside Lucía Sainz. “Champion at home – said Eugenio after the victory –. Playing in front of my people was an emotion that cannot be described. Thank you to everyone who came to watch me”. Fassio also commented on the result: “After all the effort we have made, the time has come to smile. This island is my second home. Let’s keep it going”.

José Jimenez and Javi Garcia, world No. 35 and 21 in the FIP Ranking, were crowned champions in the men’s draw. In the final match for the title, the pair defeated their opponents and second seeds Mariano Gonzalez and “Curro” Cabeza in two sets (7-6 6-4), having previously overcome Miki Solbes and Christian Fuster (6-2 6-2) in the semi-finals. The winners arrived in Spain after reaching the quarter-finals at the Premier Padel P2 in Newgiza, Egypt, where they were defeated by the eventual champions of the tournament, Ale Galan and Fede Chingotto. The title won in Spain by Jimenez and Garcia is their second of the year on the CUPRA FIP Tour, following their victory in early April at the FIP Bronze in Houten, Netherlands. “Champions in Gran Canaria – said Garcia after the triumph –. I am happy with the effort we made to win the title and with the level we showed throughout the weekend”.
