Portugal, Javi Barrera completes family double

A “family double” of titles, from the FIP Silver in Cyprus to the FIP Promises in Vilamoura. It was in the Portuguese venue where Javier Barrera, younger brother of Marta – winner over the weekend at the Cypriot event – secured victory in the NextGen tournament in the Under 18 category. The 17-year-old Javi (right in the photo) claimed the title alongside Alejandro Guerrero Moyano, without dropping a single set throughout the tournament. On their way to the final, Barrera and Moyano defeated the second seeds Guillermo Nogueras and Alberto Barril, while in the final against Hugo Navarro and Marcos Náñez they were leading 6–2 3–0 before their opponents retired.

Among the other winners, the Italian pair Giovanni Miriello and Lorenzo Margani stood out, defeating home players Afonso Simoes/Sa in the Under 14 boys’ final (6–3 7–5). For Miriello and Margani, this is their fourth FIP Promises title since the start of the year, following those in Perugia, Siracusa and Turin.
