Lobo and Polo crowned queens of the first-ever CUPRA FIP Tour in Malta

The inaugural edition of the CUPRA FIP Tour in Malta ended in the best possible way for Julia Polo and Martina Lobo, who claimed the title at the FIP Bronze tournament in Pembroke. In the final, the pair defeated Liza Groenveld and Costanca Gorito 6-4 6-1. Earlier, in the semifinals, the champions had comfortably overcome Luna Di Battista and Lea Jurkovic with a dominant 6-1 6-0 victory. This year, Polo had already won the FIP Silver tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as well as the FIP Bronze event in Eidsvoll, Denmark. Meanwhile, for Lobo, this was her first title of the season on the circuit.

 

In the men’s draw, the title went to Jose Solano and Ramiro Pereyra, who defeated Giuseppe Fino and Marcel Font in a couple of sets, 7-6 6-1, in the championship match. In the semifinals, they had beaten Jose Manuel Ortiz and Arthur Hugounenq 7-6  6-3. The winners completed the tournament without dropping a single set.

 

The FIP Bronze in Pembroke represents an important milestone in the global expansion of the CUPRA FIP Tour. Malta is among the 17 new countries that will host, or have already hosted, a tournament on the circuit this year. The main draw will begin on Thursday and conclude on Sunday, when the semi-finals and the final will be played, with the title at stake. According to the International Padel Federation’s World Padel Report 2025, Malta already has 10,000 amateur players.
