Brea and Triay celebrate in Kuwait too. Gemma makes history as the most successful player of all time

The Major finals in Kuwait belonged to Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who will finish the season at the top of the FIP Ranking for the fourth consecutive year. But it was also a special day for Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, who returned to winning ways after almost two months without a title. Their previous triumph had come in the Madrid P1, when the Argentine and the Spaniard lifted the trophy together. Despite not winning in the intervening weeks, they had remained the number 1 seeds at the tournaments they entered. Their three-set victory over Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero (3-6 6-1 6-1) also saw Triay claim the outright record for the most titles won in her career. She now has 59, moving ahead of Ale Salazar and Ari Sanchez, one of today’s opponents, who remain on 58. For Brea and Triay, who will face each other next week at the FIP World Cup, representing Argentina and Spain respectively, it was their seventh title of the season, their second Major after Rome and their 16th as a pair since the start of 2025.

“We’ve had a special week, with incredible organisation”, said Gemma. “I’m happy with the title and the record. Winning this tournament means a lot. We played a great final and had a great tournament. I want to thank Delfi, who played a fantastic match. We didn’t make the best start to the final, but we began playing better in the second set. Once again, the key was believing in ourselves”. Delfi was equally delighted: “This is one of the best tournaments of the year, and winning this title is a great reward for us. So many people behind the scenes are always pushing us to give everything. Without them, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to win”.
