Shanghai, Lacamoire-Lopez shine in China. Melero-Zurita to face them in the semi-finals

There is no doubt: the result that lit up Saturday at the FIP Gold in Shanghai, China, was the 6-3 6-1 win recorded by Julian Lacamoire-Facundo Lopez over Tonet Sans-Gustavo Nunes, the tournament’s fifth and second seeded pairs respectively, in the quarter-finals. Beyond the satisfaction of the result, the Argentine pair were also pleased with the manner in which the victory was achieved: Lacamoire-Lopez managed every phase of the match without ever being put under pressure by a highly competitive pair. “Tomorrow morning we will play the FIP Gold semi-final” said Lopez after the victory. The other semi-final will be Denis Perino-Arnau Ayets against Victor Mena-Ignacio Archieri. The former defeated Henrique Barbosa-Mateo Conte (6-1 6-3) in their quarter-final, while the latter overcame Fran Ramirez-Alejandro Calvo after a very closely contested match (7-6 5-7 7-5).

WOMEN All four top pairs in the women’s main draw have reached the semi-finals. The tournament’s top seeds, Noa Canovas and Laia Rodriguez, recorded a comfortable win over Eugenia Guimet and Ekaterina Nikitina (6-1 6-1). Awaiting them for a place in the final is the pair Julia Polo-Marina Lobo, who defeated Raquel Piltcher and Christina-Stylani Ntanou in a match decided only in the third set (4-6 6-1 6-1). A straightforward win for Carla Fernandez-Nerea Guerra by 6-1 6-0 over Leire Uriarte-Nadia Aida Acuna. The two Spaniards in the semi-finals will face Giorgia Marchetti and Marta Borrero, who overcame Ivet Val Lopez and Louise Bahurel (7-6 6-3).
