Shanghai, Perino-Ayats and Zurita-Melero advance to the next round. Suselo-Tanoso win after nearly three-hour marathon

Winning a first-round main draw match is never easy. Doing so becomes even more difficult when the match turns into a marathon: Mike Tanoso and Singgin Ario Suselo defeated Pablo Pastor and Lok Hei Jamie Yau in the round of 32 of the FIP Gold Shanghai after a match lasting 2 hours and 55 minutes (6-7 6-4 7-6). Awaiting them in the next round is a clash with Nico Zurita and Miguel Melero, who comfortably overcame Jose Antonio Canorea and Antonio Sanchez (6-0 6-2). Top seeds Denis Perino and Arnau Ayats also progressed to the round of 16. Continuing their run in China are Gustavo Nunes and Tonet Sans who, after defeating Andres and Arturo Calzada with a double 6-2, will face Alejandro Guinaldo and Aleix Pozo Rius. Other standout round-of-16 matches scheduled for tomorrow include Facundo Lopez-Julian Lacamoire versus Adrian Baamonde-Bohou Zhang and Gonzalo Sassano-Noe Navarro versus Victor Mena-Ignacio Archieri. The latter pair secured a convincing victory over home duo Yuanquin Du and Xinjian Jiang (6-0 6-0).

WOMEN All of the top seven pairs in the women’s draw will compete in the round of 16. Giorgia Marchetti and Marta Borrero comfortably defeated Wu Wei and Ranran Zheng 6-0 6-0 and will next face Japan’s Kae Tokumoto and Saki Tsukamoto. Also advancing to the next round are Nerea Guerra and Carla Fernandez, and Raquel Pitcher and Christina Styliani Ntanou, who both won in straight setsrespectively against Jadeleen Lee and Chun Wing Jennifer Sher (6-1 6-2) and Sayaka Yoshimoto and Anna Guryanova (6-0 6-2). The former will meet Lucia Perez and Venice Chan in the round of 16, while the latter will face Chifumi Sato and Beatrice Gumulya. Also noteworthy was the defeat of Kotomi Ozawa and Alena Vasileva against Leire Uriarte and Nadia Aida Acuna after a closely contested match decided only in the third-set tie-break (4-6 6-2 7-6). Top seeds Laia Rodriguez and Noa Canovas will face Melanie Lau and Natalie Narkprasert in the round of 16, while Marina Lobo and Julia Polo will take on Chiali Chen and Chiaseng Lai.
