Cabeza-Gonzalez shine in Koksijde. Home victory for Wyckaert-Mestach

A very high-level men’s final in Belgium. Curro Cabeza and Mariano Gonzalez defeated Juanlu Esbri and Pablo Garcia, the tournament’s top seeds, 6-1 7-5 to claim the FIP Silver Koksijde title. The pair added another title to the one they won in April at the FIP Bronze Marrakech. The two winners did not drop a single set throughout the tournament: in the semi-finals they had beaten Pau Minano-Alejandro Garcia 6-3 7-6, while in the quarter-finals they defeated Filippo Nicocia-Alvaro Lopez Luque 6-0 6-2.

There was also a fine spectacle in the women’s draw. The home players Helena Wyckaert and An–Sophie Mestach lifted the trophy in front of their home crowd. Their tournament was an outstanding one: they were not even among the top eight seeded pairs. In the final, they defeated the Italians Giulia Sussarello-Emily Stellato 6-3 6-3, while in the semi-finals they overcame their compatriots Elyne Boeykens-Justine Pysson 7-6 6-4. Also noteworthy was their round of 16 victory over the No. 3 seeds, Lucia Perez-Jimena Diaz 6-3 6-4.
