Day3. Caldera and Goenaga claim a major upset. Now it is Bea Gonzalez’s turn
July 16, 2026
Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga, both ranked No. 17 in the FIP rankings, are the highest-ranked non-seeded players in either Premier Padel draw. Their three quarter-final appearances this season, together with their semi-final run at the 2025 Acapulco Major, confirm that the two Spaniards are among the toughest opponents to face. Ale Salazar and Aranzazu Osoro know that well, having been defeated 6-4 6-3 in their first match together in the opening round of the Malaga P1, which concluded yesterday. It was an outstanding result for Bea and Carmen, opening up the bottom half of the draw, where Bea Gonzalez is also set to begin her campaign in front of her home crowd alongside Paula Josemaria. They will face Jessica Castelló and Marta Talavan on Centre Court in the sixth match of the day, with play starting at 10:00 at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena. The women’s tournament will also move into full swing, with Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay opening their campaign against Lorena Rufo and Victoria Iglesias, while Claudia Fernandez and Sofia Araujo will begin the programme against Alix Collombon and Ksenia Sharifova.
MEN The leading pairs in the men’s draw also return to the court after opening their campaigns with victories yesterday. Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who defeated David Gala and Enzo Jensen 6-3 6-2, will now face Tolito Aguirre and Alex Arroyo, while Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan, after a 6-0 6-3 win over Denis Perino and Facundo Dominguez, will open the afternoon session at 16:00 against Juan Tello and Maxi Arce. Sanyo Gutierrez and Maxi Sanchez Blasco, one of the three pairs to eliminate a seeded team in the second round, will look to repeat the feat against Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger, while the clash between Franco Stupaczuk and Mike Yanguas and Javi Garrido and Lucas Bergamini promises to be one of the standout matches of the day.
