Two top-30 players lead the women’s entry list for the FIP Silver Slam in Collbató, on the outskirts of Barcelona, which gets underway on Thursday at the Slam Sports Club. Patty Llaguno (21) and Carolina Orsi (28) return to the CUPRA FIP Tour just over a month after reaching the final of the FIP Platinum Lusitania and following their round-of-16 appearance at the Malaga P1. The Italian-Spanish pair will open their campaign against two promising young opponents, 17-year-olds Claudia Ordoñez and Daniela Portilla, who over the past month reached the semi-finals of the FIP Bronze in Hungary and the final in La Coruña, after winning the Istanbul event in June.
In the bottom half of the draw, attention turns to Laia Rodriguez, who is from Collbató, partnering Noa Canovas, also from Barcelona. “We can’t wait to play and enjoy this tournament surrounded by our people and close to our loved ones,” said the world No. 32 players, who will face sisters Ana and Ado Caballero in the opening round. Also among the seeded pairs are Agueda Perez and Camila Fassio (3), and Anna Ortiz with Argentina’s Maria Laura Ferreyra (4). France’s Carla Touly and Xènia Clascà are also in contention for a significant result, as are Italy’s NextGen talent Matilde Minelli and Carla Mesa.
Chile and Argentina top the men’s draw, with Javi Valdes and Renzo Nuñez aiming for their second title of the year after lifting the FIP Bronze in Asuncion. Fresh from the Pretoria P1, where they reached the main draw through qualifying, Arnau Ayats and Emilio Delgado are seeded second. Standing in their way in a potential semi-final are Daniel Luna and Nacho Moragues (3), while in the top half of the draw Simone Cremona and Jaume Romera (4) will look to go one step further after reaching the final of the FIP Bronze in Georgia earlier this month.
