Rubio and Fernández Lancha ready to light up Jersey Island: the target is to win first title as pair

After making their debut as a new partnership at the Premier Padel P1 in Malaga, Gonzalo Rubio and Andrés Fernández Lancha, No. 43 and No. 62 in the FIP Ranking, will arrive at the FIP Silver Rathbones Island Padel in Jersey Island, Great Britain, aiming to claim their first title together. The pair are the favourites for this CUPRA FIP Tour event, where they are the No. 1 seeds. This year, Rubio has already won the FIP Silver Kuala Lumpur and the FIP Bronze Baku II and Mumbai, while Lancha lifted the winners’ trophy at the FIP Bronze Isla de la Palma in Spain. The men’s draw features a strong line-up of players. Among them is Ignacio Piotto, the player with whom Rubio won in Malaysia, who will compete alongside fellow Argentine Juan Cruz Belluati. Other pairs aiming for success include Diego Arredondo-Agustin Torre, Dutch duo Julian Prins-Youp De Kroon, and Fabian Oviedo-Marco Cassetta. The latter pair will arrive at this CUPRA FIP Tour event with the confidence of last week’s victory at the FIP Bronze held in Lelystad, Netherlands.

The women’s draw is headed by Teresa Navarro and Virginia Riera. Together, they have claimed three titles this year: the FIP Silver Dubai and the FIP Bronze events in Bahrain and Agrigento. Riera also secured the FIP Bronze Manila title alongside Lucia Sainz. Their main challengers for the trophy are Lucia Martinez and Marta Arellano, who won the FIP Bronze events in Alexandria, Egypt, and Kaunas, Lithuania, this year. Ana Varo-Marcella Koek and Lucia Peralta-Monica Gomez are also aiming to play leading roles in the tournament. The main draw of the tournament will begin on Friday 31 July and conclude on Sunday 2 August, when the semi-finals and finals will be played.
