Madrid, a tournament to remember for Collantes-Martinez: first career title win on the CUPRA FIP Tour

The day you win your first career title on the CUPRA FIP Tour stays in your mind forever. Javi Collantes and Asier Martinez know this well, having lifted their first trophy as champions of a circuit event at the FIP Bronze Bamvolea Ciudad Raqueta, held in Madrid. After defeating Marc Sintes and Nacho Morangues (6-3 6-4) in the semi-finals, the two winners triumphed in the title match against Jesus Moya-Thomas Leygue (7-5 6-4). For Collantes, this success came in his first career final on the CUPRA FIP Tour, while Martinez had reached the title match twice this year, at the FIP Bronze events in Phangan and Samui, Thailand. The two players dominated in Spain, without dropping a single set to their opponents throughout the tournament. Collantes and Martinez entered the tournament’s main draw as wild cards.

In the women’s draw, No. 1 seeds Amanda Lopez-Camila Fassio dominated the tournament. After defeating the Italian pairing of Emily Stellato-Giulia Sussarello (6-3 6-4) in the semi-finals, they beat Aida Martinez and Ana Dominguez (6-2 6-0) in the final. Fassio became champion at FIP Bronze Lotto in Poland this year, while her partner had already won three titles, all in Spain: FIP Bronze Sevilla, Elche and Alicante. “FIP Bronze Madrid champions” – said Lopez -. “We played a very good tournament. Now we are focusing on the qualifying round of the P1 Madrid.”
