Day1. The French take centre stage on Philippe-Chatrier. Leygue into the main draw, Fonteny through to the second round
September 7, 2026
“Playing at home is always special”. Ale Galan said it yesterday at the Movistar Arena after winning the Comunidad de Madrid P1 alongside Fede Chingotto. A new week, a new tournament and new emotions – this time for the French players, who have the opportunity to compete at a dream venue such as Roland Garros. On the opening day of the Alpine Paris Major, Thomas Leygue, alongside Jesus Moya, secured a place in the main draw after defeating Aragon/Roglan in three sets. Timeo Fonteny, partnering Spaniard Nacho Moragues, had already reached the second round thanks to a 6-1 6-4 victory over José Luis Gonzalez and Alvaro Melendez.
Tomorrow, when the women’s draw will also get underway – with 20 matches scheduled from 12 CEST across five courts – Philippe-Chatrier, Roland Garros’ historic centre court, will be dedicated entirely to French players. Lea Godallier, alongside Daiara Valenzuela, will open the programme against Borrero/Navarro, followed by Moya/Leygue against Gala/Jensen and Carla Touly, partnering Xenia Clascà, against Gomez/Polo. In the evening session, not before 18:00, Alix Collombon and Ksenia Sharifova will face Arellano/Lobo, followed, not before 20:00, by Dylan Guichard and Belgian Clement Geens against Pineda/Ruiz. All while waiting for the world’s leading pairs to make their debut on Wednesday.
