Day2. Italy and Premier Padel: Abbate’s magic moment. Salazar still wants to enjoy herself

In London, in the last Premier Padel tournament before the summer break, Flavio Abbate – alongside Alvaro Montiel – had pushed Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan to a third set. Just a few days ago in Taranto, Abbate and Montiel won the silver medal at the Mediterranean Games. In Madrid, with a different partner – Alonso Rodriguez – Abbate confirmed his magic moment by knocking out the seventh seeds Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal from the Comunidad de Madrid P1. A 2-6 7-6 7-6 victory that sends Abbate and Rodriguez through to the round of 16, where they will face José Solano Marmolejo and Ramiro Pereyra, another surprise package at the Movistar Arena and winners over Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi (3-6 6-3 6-4). Winning starts, meanwhile, for the world’s top pairs: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia defeated Fede Mouriño and Marc Quilez 6-0 6-1, Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan beat Aris Patiniotis and Diego Garcia 6-2 6-4, Juan Lebron and Leo Augsburger overcame Javi Martinez and Luis Hernandez 6-3 6-3, while Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz defeated Mariano Gonzalez and Curro Cabeza 6-4 6-3.

 

WOMEN A different start for the women’s gold medallists from the Mediterranean Games. Lucia Sainz, alongside Sofia Saiz, lost 6-3 5-7 6-2 to Lorena Rufo and Victoria Iglesias, while Patty Llaguno and Carolina Orsi defeated Jimena Velasco and Raquel Eugenio 6-4 6-0. As she awaits the tribute to her legendary career, Ale Salazar, alongside Aranzazu Osoro, came through a battle lasting more than two hours, beating Letizia Manquillo and Lucia Martinez 6-3 3-6 6-3 to reach the round of 16, which begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. The top four seeds will also make their debut: Delfi Brea and Gemma Triay, Paula Josemaria and Bea Gonzalez, Ari Sanchez and Andrea Ustero, and Claudia Fernandez and Martina Calvo.
