FIP World Cup Qualifiers Europe, Day 2: Greece achieve a double success. Croatia win again in the women’s event

MADRID – With the Group Stage decisions set to be made at the end of Day 3 of the FIP World Cup Qualifiers-Europe, two national teams took centre stage in the women’s draw in Madrid. After their opening-day victory over Bulgaria, Greece recorded a second consecutive win in Group F, defeating Ireland 3-0 thanks to the pairs Manolou/Geraimou, Ntanou/Adamopoulou and Stavroulaki/Malamou. Greece sit top of the group and will face Slovenia in their next match. The other team to impress on Day 2 in Madrid was Croatia, who defeated Georgia, confirming their excellent form after a positive result in their opening match. Victories for Lovreković/Jurković, Hrkač/Pavković and Katavić/Koraca secured the win for Croatia. In the other Group E match, Ukraine defeated Romania 2-1. With the same scoreline, Poland and Bulgaria defeated Switzerland and Slovenia respectively. Austria, Hungary and Norway also stood out in the women’s draw, all recording 3-0 victories in their respective matches.

 

There was also plenty of action in the men’s draw. By defeating Ukraine 2-1, Greece secured their second consecutive victory in the men’s category. The other Group F match also ended 2-1, with Romania defeating the Czech Republic. Estonia recorded a significant victory over Azerbaijan thanks to wins for Inno/Murrand, Helde/Kerner and Rouk/Hakonen. This result will allow the Estonian players to compete with the Netherlands for qualification in the final group match (they currently sit top of Group A with three points). Also standing out on Day 2 were the victories for Denmark, Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia and Austria, all winning 3-0. Serbia, Lithuania and Finland won 2-1 against Cyprus, Georgia and Norway respectively. In both the men’s and women’s draws, Great Britain and Germany had a rest day and will return to action for their final group match.

 

DAY3 SCHEDULE On the third and final day of the European qualifying stage for the upcoming FIP World Cup, taking place from 2 to 7 November in Qatar, 19 matches will be played. Action will begin at 9am local time with nine matches (eight women’s and one men’s). Among the women’s matches, Germany-Türkiye, Great Britain-Serbia and Ireland-Bulgaria will be among the fixtures to watch. The ten men’s matches will begin at no earlier than 12pm local time and will bring Day 3 to a close, after which the final decisions will be made on which teams will progress to the knockout stage, which begins on Thursday 25 September. Among the scheduled matches are Germany-Lithuania, Netherlands-Estonia and Great Britain-Moldova. The FIP World Cup Qualifiers Europe matches will be available to watch on the FIP YouTube channel.
