Fornarotto’s joy after triumph with Pistritto: “Floridia is now like home. Winning here is special”

The FIP Promises Tour event held in Floridia, Sicily, had one main protagonist: Italy’s NextGen. Four of the five titles on offer were won by homegrown talents. In the Under 18 girls’ category, Giada Cloe Pistritto and Vittoria Fornarotto (on the right in the photo) claimed the title. For the latter, who is Sicilian, the success has a special significance: it came at the ‘Star Padel’ club, where she has played in several national competitions this year. “Some victories have a different feeling: this was one of them,” said Fornarotto. “Floridia is now home. Being able to win here, in a place I feel is mine, means a lot to me. This victory is the result of all the hard work, the hours spent on court and everything I am doing. Thank you, Giada, I am happy to be playing with you again. I would like to thank all the people who accompany me, support me and believe in me every day.”

In the Under 16 girls’ category, Flavia Maltese and Giorgia Zoe Pistritto also celebrated victory after beating Eleonora Regini-Giuliana Di Martino in the final, following a closely contested match decided by a match tie-break (5-7 6-3 10-7). The pairs of Giovanni Salvatore Manduca-Raffaele Tatullo and Marco Mometti-Lorenzo Cecchetti claimed the Under 16 and Under 14 boys’ titles respectively.

The only non-Italian success came from the Spanish pair Leon David Ruiz Shannon and Daniel Beneyto Sanchez. After defeating Matteo Quatrana and Raffaele Tatullo 6-4 6-4 in the semi-finals, the two players won the title decider against the No. 1 seeds Gabriele Laurino-Alessandro Zaccagnino (6-4 6-3).
