Joy and emotion in Sanremo for home player Giovannini

SANREMO – The joy of a hugely important victory, together with the memory and emotion for a friend who is no longer here. Pietro Giovannini (left in the photo) dominated the Under 18 category at the FIP Promises Sanremo Padel Experience in the Ligurian city in Italy, the region where he was born and raised. Together with Spaniard Leon Ortega – in their first tournament as a pair – Giovannini defeated (6-1 6-2) the number 1 seeds, Stefano Indomenico and Gabriele Laurino, in the final. The two are his team-mates in the national team that won bronze at the FIP Junior Euro Padel Cup last July. Giovannini thus confirms his outstanding run of form: just two weeks ago, the 18-year-old also won the Italian Under 18 title. “I am delighted to have won such an important tournament right here at home, in front of my parents, my family and my friends.” He then made an emotional dedication to padel coach Tiberio Camurri, a well-known figure in the area who passed away a few weeks ago. “This victory is for him, with all my heart. He will always remain with us.”

 

FIP Promises Sanremo also produced a double title for Switzerland’s Benjamin Filieri, who won the Under 14 boys’ title with Tyrone Pottier and the Under 16 boys’ title with his brother Nathan. Two titles also went to two other Italian players, Marta La Carpia and Vittoria Conti, winners of the Under 14 and Under 16 girls’ titles.
