Lyon, Leal and Guerrero triumph again in France: second Platinum of 2026. Celebration also for Caldera-Goenaga

From Marseille to Lyon, from one FIP Platinum to another: France continues to bring good fortune to Fran Guerrero and Javi Leal, who, after collecting 300 FIP Ranking and FIP Race points in February, have now added another major achievement by beating Franco Stupaczuk and Jon Sanz. The match had started badly for the number 2 seeds, with Stupa and Sanz winning the opening set 6-4. Fran and Javi turned the match around, however, closing out a 4-6 6-1 6-4 victory in a final that thrilled the crowd at the Palais des Sports de Gerland. “We’re happy to have won again in France”, said Leal. “Tomorrow we’ll head to Rotterdam and keep going”. “When we play together, we are a very strong pair”, added Guerrero. “It has been a difficult week, but we’re happy with the way we responded”.

 

WOMEN If Guerrero and Leal confirmed their affinity with France, Bea Caldera won in Lyon for the second time. Having claimed the title at the FIP Gold in 2024 with Lorena Rufo, the Valladolid player triumphed this time alongside Carmen Goenaga, beating Martina Fassio and Agueda Perez 6-1 6-3. “I really like this city and this tournament”, she said. “It’s really nice to be back and win again”. “We played a great match”, added Goenaga. “A very solid performance, played in the best possible way. We knew it was going to be a difficult match; it was also more evenly contested than the scoreline suggests”.

 

The Qatar Airways Premier Padel Tour will return next week with the P2 in Rotterdam, while Perugia, Italy, will also host the FIP Gold Mediolanum Padel Cup. The Race to the Barcelona Finals continues.
