Spain, here you go again: seventh title in a row, but what a battle against Argentina! Triay: “It is incredible to be part of this team”
November 7, 2026
The Spanish women’s team beat Argentina 2-0 in the final to lift the FIP World Cup trophy. Sanchez-Ustero defeated Fassio-Osoro 6-3,6-3, while Triay-Josemaría overcame Brea-Jensen in a thrilling three-set battle.
DOHA – The tension gripping every shot. The long, hard-fought battle in the second match. And then the joy, bursting out in a wonderful release of tears. Spain’s women’s team claimed the FIP World Cup 2026 for the seventh consecutive time, but celebrated with all the emotion of a first. It is no coincidence that Andrea Ustero became the face of that emotion. Already among the elite of world padel, she was moved to tears after securing the opening point for Spain alongside Ari Sanchez, in her first-ever World Cup appearance. Andrea represents the new generation of Spanish padel, fitting seamlessly alongside established stars such as Ari, Martita and Gemma. Spain continues to produce champions, and the FIP Ranking is there for all to see. Ari and Andrea defeated Martina Fassio and Aranzazu Osoro 6-3 6-3. The Argentine pair put up a courageous fight, but it was not enough against a partnership in outstanding form and coming off an impressive run in recent Premier Padel tournaments.
The match was far more competitive than the final score suggests, although Ari and Andrea were always the ones dictating the pace, despite a few uncertain moments. The final game of the second set perfectly illustrated the strength of this partnership: trailing 0-40 and on the verge of being broken, which would have reopened the set, the world No. 4 and No. 6 won four consecutive points before sealing the match with the Star Point. “I stepped onto court extremely nervous, and I was just as nervous when I finished playing”, Ustero admitted. “Wearing this shirt and representing these colours, especially at my first World Cup, brings a lot of pressure. But I had the best team I could have wished for by my side. My teammates supported and encouraged me from this morning, as did the entire crowd. And then there was Ari, whom I play with throughout the year and who always knows what to say when I go through moments like these. I am really, really happy”.

The stakes were even higher in the second match, in which Triay-Josemaría defeated Jensen-Brea in three sets after a battle lasting 2 hours and 38 minutes, winning 6-2 6-7 6-3. On one side were Gemma Triay and Paula Josemaría, reunited after dominating France in the semi-finals; on the other, Claudia Jensen and Delfi Brea, the current FIP world No. 1 and Triay’s regular partner, with both players competing on the left side of the court. Brea and Jensen had proved a solid partnership, conceding just five games to their opponents across their three previous matches. But this was always going to be a different challenge. After a first set dominated by the Spanish pair (6-2), the match came alive: one break apiece, hard-fought rallies and a thrilling finish. At 6-5, Paula raised her game, saving a set point and taking the match to a tie-break. The Argentine pair eventually won it on their third set point, helped by a net-cord that proved golden for Claudia. In the third set, the balance held until the seventh game, when the decisive breakthrough came: a smash from Gemma set up the break that put the Spanish pair 5-3 ahead. From there, Triay and Josemaría climbed all the way to the top of the world.
“I want to congratulate Delfi and Claudia. They played an incredible match”,Triay said afterwards. “But above all, I want to thank the team and the fans. Winning another World Cup is truly special. It is never easy, and the pressure is always there. It is incredible to be part of this team”. Josemaría was equally delighted: “We have had an incredible week. You never know when you will get another opportunity like this, so you have to enjoy it to the fullest”. And there is no doubt that tonight, every one of them will do just that.
