Barahona-Piotto and Sainz-Manquillo head the draws in Turin. 150 FIP Ranking points at stake

TURIN – From top seeds Javi Barahona-Nacho Piotto, ranked 35 and 47 in the world respectively, to the Argentine pair of Alex Chozas (33), world champion with the ‘Seleccion Albiceleste’ in 2024, and Juani Rubini (60), the Italian public is ready for the action at the FIP Gold Mediolanum Padel Cup Torino (the main draw begins on Thursday), where 150 FIP Ranking points are up for grabs. In early October, Barahona reached the final of another FIP Gold event held in Italy, in Perugia. This week, the Spaniard will be aiming to claim the 12th title of his career on the CUPRA FIP Tour, while it would be the 11th for his partner Piotto. Also among the leading contenders are Álvaro Melendez and Gonzalo Rubio, the most successful player in the circuit’s history with 17 titles, a record he shares with Italy’s Marco Cassetta. Pedro Melendez, Álvaro’s brother, will also compete in Turin, partnering Dani Luna. The Italian pairs Giuseppe Fino-Lorenzo Di Giovanni and Matteo Rosingana-Santino Giuliani are also ones to watch.

Attention will focus on former world number one Lucia Sainz (26), who leads the women’s draw alongside Leti Manquillo (41), the most successful player in CUPRA FIP Tour history. In 2026, Sainz has already won the FIP Silver title in Parma, Italy. NextGen players Amanda Lopez and Camila Fassio, born in 2008 and 2007 respectively, are the second seeds and are in the top half of the draw alongside the top seeds. Both have already established themselves on the circuit: Lopez has recorded 13 titles, one more than Fassio. In the opposite half are Julia Polo, winner of this season’s FIP Bronze Cordenons, and Ana Dominguez. Italian player Matilde Minelli will compete at the Palavillage alongside Carla Mesa. The all-Italian duo of Giorgia Rosi-Marianela Montesi will also be one to watch. As with all CUPRA FIP Tour tournaments, the FIP Gold Mediolanum Padel Cup will also be streamed on the FIP YouTube channel starting with Saturday’s quarter-finals; Sunday will feature the semi-finals and finals.
