TAUNTON – Two titles in seven days. Following their victory last week at the FIP Bronze Racourt in Alkmaar, the Netherlands, the pair of Dani Luna and Pedro Melendez completed a double by also winning the FIP Bronze Ewh City Padel Taunton. In Great Britain, the champions first defeated Jose Roman Martinez Sanchis-Adrian Molina Lopez 6-4 6-4 in the semi-finals before overcoming Henrique Barbosa-Marco Remolina Pablo 6-1 4-6 7-5 in the final. Luna has won six CUPRA FIP Tour tournaments in his career, while Melendez has claimed seven. “Champions!” said Melendez. “We’re going home having got the job done. Closing out the final was difficult, but winning in this way makes it even more satisfying. Now we’re back to preparing for the next tournament. Let’s keep it going.”
In the women’s draw, third seeds Paula Ferran-Susana Martin claimed the title with a convincing 6-2 6-2 victory over Constança Gorito-Catarina Santos in the final. The champions had also prevailed in straight sets in the semi-finals, defeating Janine Hemmes-Stephanie Weterings 6-2 6-4. “We are the FIP Bronze Taunton champions,” said Ferran. “I’m delighted not only with the result, but also with all the work that has gone into it. I’m proud to see the changes I’ve made reflected in my game on court. Susana, we are a team: thank you for fighting alongside me, even when I wasn’t at 100%. I’d also like to thank everyone who is always there for me.”
