Day 2. Sager and Campagnolo, what a feat! Coello and Tapia light up the Pietrangeli
June 11, 2025
The first upset of the BNL Italy Major Premier Padelis that of Nachi Sager and Lucas Campagnolo. With a 7-6 7-5 victory on Centre Court in one hour and 29 minutes, the Spanish and Brazilian – respectively ranked 53rd and 30th in the FIP ranking – eliminated Pablo Cardona and Leo Augsburger, seeded number 8 and able to reach the final of the P2 in Asuncion. Sager and Campagnolo’s victory followed that of Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan on the same court; ‘Chingalan’ began their title defense with a 6-2 6-3 win over Valdes/Collado and will face lucky losers Denis Perino and Mario Huete tomorrow (the start of the program is set for 9 a.m. CET). While the morning at the Foro Italico saw the number 2 seeds on court, in the evening Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia lit up the Pietrangeli, beating brothers Nuno and Miguel Deus 6-2 6-1 to give the number 1 seeds the chance to take revenge for Asuncion (knocked out in the quarterfinals) against José Diestro and Juanlu Esbri (16). Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk (seeded number 3) also made a good debut (6-3, 6-2 against Ayats/Garcia Rodrigo), while Coki Nieto and Mike Yanguas (4) were forced into a third set before overcoming Teo Zapata and Josè Jimenez 6-2 3-6 6-3.
WOMEN Awaiting the debut of the top four pairs in the women’s draw (Sanchez/Josemaria versus Osoro/Calvo, Brea/Triay versus Eugenio/Riera, Gonzalez/Fernandez versus Martinez Gomez/Marrero and Araujo/Ustero versus Guinart/Iglesias), the 2024 finalists Lucia Sainz and Patty Llaguno conceded only four games (6-2 6-2) to Sandra Bellver and Laia Rodriguez. There were also victories for Ortega/Alonso (5), Salazar/Virseda (6) and Icardo/Jensen (8). On Thursday, the tournament enters its decisive phase: the public knows it and is ready to fill the Foro Italico.
