What a night for Icardo and Ortega! It’s going to be another showdown against Sánchez and Josemaría

Almost two months ago, at the Paris Major, they faced each other for the first time in a semifinal. Tomorrow, Tamara Icardo and Marta Ortega will look for another big win against Ari Sánchez and Paula Josemaría — this time at the FIP World Cup Pairs semifinals. The world No. 5 duo keep their incredible run going at the Arena Kuwait after defeating Bea González and Claudia Fernández in the quarterfinals.

On the Alghanim court, Martita and Tamara won 6-4, 6-1 in a brilliant performance where they kept constant pressure on return — winning 62% of points on the first serve return and an impressive 80% on the second. The start of the second set set the tone: after seven break points, Bea and Claudia managed to hold for 1-0, but suffered an immediate break back, and from there Icardo and Ortega went full throttle, giving their opponents no more chances. Along with reaching the semifinals, they can enjoy the satisfaction of getting there without dropping a single set. The FIP World Cup Pairs remains a completely open dream for them.
