Veracruz, in Mexico the Race for the last Finals spots heats up

Between the Dubai P1 and the last Major of the season, scheduled next week in Acapulco, there is a key stop on the CUPRA FIP Tour: in Veracruz, once again in Mexico, the FIP Platinum Skechers tournament will take place, with 300 ranking points up for grabs, also valid for the Race to the Barcelona Finals. And it’s no coincidence that leading the draw is Javi Leal, who at the moment would be the last player qualified for the season-ending event. Leal and Lucas Bergamini are the top seeds in a draw that, on the opposite side, features Momo Gonzalez and Fran Guerrero, currently 14th and 15th in the Race, while Edu Alonso and Juan Tello – respectively 19th and 17th, both aiming to overtake – complete the top-three seeded pairings. Leal and Bergamini will debut against Alvaro Montiel and Juan Cruz Belluati, while Gonzalez and Guerrero will face Juani De Pascual and Alex Chozas.

WOMEN There will be 32 teams in the men’s draw and 28 in the women’s, led by Ale Alonso and Claudia Jensen, who are not yet mathematically qualified for the Barcelona Finals but are very close. The situation is different for the No. 2 seeds, Marina Guinart and Veronica Virseda, who are currently holding the last available spot among the “magnificent 16” and must fend off the challenge from Bea Caldera and Carmen Goenaga, the No. 4 seeds and currently the first pair outside the Finals qualification zone. The No. 3 seeds will be Aranzazu Osoro (19th) and Victoria Iglesias (20th), who are also still competing in the Race. The top four seeds at the FIP Platinum Skechers in Veracruz benefit from a bye and will start directly from the round of 16.
