Tapia and Coello one step from revenge at the Tour Finals
December 13, 2025
Saturday’s second semifinal delivered a re-edition of one of the great rivalries of the 2023 season, as Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia faced Franco Stupaczuk and Martín Di Nenno in a clash worthy of the occasion.
The opening set lived up to the enormous expectations. The numbers told the story of extraordinary balance: six break-point opportunities for each pair, none of them converted. The deadlock remained until the very end, when the world No. 1s finally struck on their seventh break chance of the set. The decisive break came at 5-6, allowing Tapia and Coello to edge the opener.
The gap widened in the second set, driven by an unstoppable Arturo Coello. The Spaniard was the standout attacking force of the match, producing an extraordinary 26 winners, complemented by six assists — also the highest tally on court.
Those numbers translated into control. Tapia and Coello imposed themselves in the second set, securing two breaks of serve to tip the balance decisively and close out the match 7-5, 6-2, booking their place in another Tour Finals final.
On Sunday, the world No. 1s will have the chance to atone for last season’s runner-up finish and bring the 2025 campaign to a close with their 13th title of the year.
After the match, Tapia played down any concerns about fatigue ahead of the final:
“We’re used to playing more than three matches a week. This is the tournament where we play the fewest matches, so physically we’re fine.”
Much of the post-match press conference focused on the spectacular highlights that have earned Tapia the nickname “the Mozart of Catamarca” — moments that once again lit up the Palau Sant Jordi.
“It just comes out naturally,” Tapia explained. “I don’t mind looking ridiculous. There are players who think too much about what they have to do and end up not doing it. For me, that lack of fear helps — not being afraid of getting it wrong.”
One final remains. And with it, the chance for Tapia and Coello to settle unfinished business at the Tour Finals.
