Manila celebrates Sainz–Riera: the ‘leyendas’ claim the first all-women FIP Silver
March 16, 2026
Nearly seventy pairs from seventeen countries took part in a global celebration of women’s padel. It was the ideal setting for the FIP Silver in Manila, Philippines, the first tournament of this category entirely dedicated to women. Claiming the title at this historic event on the CUPRA FIP Tour were two icons of the sport: the “leyenda” Lucía Sainz – former world number one and multiple world and European champion with the Spanish national team – alongside Virginia Riera, a leading figure in Argentine padel, who secured her third title of the year after victories in Dubai and Agrigento.
The top-seeded pair completed a flawless run through the tournament, defeating Alba Perez and Alba Gallardo in the final (6-2 6-1). “A great week in the company of fantastic women, enjoying every day,” said Sainz, who claims her second victory of 2026 after the FIP Platinum in Marseille in February.
Beyond the CUPRA FIP Tour, the FIP Silver in Manila also marked an important step in the growth of padel in the Philippines. The country counts around 15,000 amateur players, while 35 professional athletes are currently included in the FIP Ranking. At the Manila Padel Club, seventeen local players took part across the qualifying rounds and main draw.
