Day1. Contreras makes his debut to applause. Bidahorria and Caparros claim upset win

Santino Contreras, who turned 16 four days ago, became the second-youngest player ever to debut in a Premier Padel tournament. He did so alongside another very young player, Naim Diaz, against Victor Ruiz and a padel legend such as Sanyo Gutierrez. Backed by the Buenos Aires crowd, Contreras fought hard but eventually left the court to applause after a 6-4 6-3 defeat. A positive debut also for Alonso Rodriguez and Juani De Pascual who, after reaching the quarter-finals in Asuncion, defeated Italians Alvaro Montiel and Flavio Abbate 4-6 7-6 6-3. The men’s draw at the P1 in the Argentine capital is now set for the second round, where all 16 seeded pairs will enter the competition: Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia will begin against Javi Valdes and Renzo Gabriel Nunes, while Fede Chingotto and Ale Galan will face Luis Hernandez and Enzo Jensen.

WOMEN The women’s draw also got underway yesterday at one of the most anticipated tournaments of the season. The standout result of the opening day came from Julieta Bidahorria and Marta Caparros, who edged eighth seeds Veronica Virseda and Marina Guinart 6-4 3-6 7-5 after a highly balanced match. Also in three sets (6-3 4-6 6-3), Ale Salazar and Ale Alonso (7) managed to overcome Laura Lujan and Ana Catarina Nogueira.

Today, starting from 10 a.m. local time (3 p.m. CEST), there will be 24 matches scheduled at Parque Roca. The Buenos Aires P1 moves into its decisive stages.
