Egypt, Insa and Luna dominate in Alexandria

At the FIP Bronze in Alexandria, Egypt, the men’s draw was won by the tournament’s top seeds Dani Luna and Ferran Insa. The two Spaniards lifted the trophy after defeating Pablo Reina and Miguel Melero in the final (5-7 6-2 6-2), with the latter pair having won the FIP Bronze I and II events in Hong Kong earlier this year. The champions in Egypt had previously overcome Jaime Pérez and home player Wagdy Raslan in the semi-finals (6-1 6-3). Luna had already won the FIP Bronze events in Baku (Azerbaijan) and the Valencian Community (Spain) this year, as well as reaching the final of the FIP Silver in Teramo, Italy, two weeks ago. For Insa, meanwhile, the title in Alexandria was his first of the year on the CUPRA FIP Tour. “We became champions in Alexandria – said Luna after the victory -. This was my third title of the season. Now we must continue working hard. Thank you Ferran, I really enjoyed playing alongside you”.

The women’s draw was also won by the pair leading the main draw. Anna Ortiz and Maria Laura Ferreyra became champions after defeating second seeds Carla Fernandez and Nerea Guerra in the final without major difficulty (6-2 7-5). In the previous round, they had beaten the home pair Laila El Nimr and Moura Hakim with a double 6-2 scoreline. Ortiz and Ferreyra did not drop a single set throughout the tournament. “Champions in Egypt – said Ortiz after the triumph -. I’m happy to be on court with Maria Laura, with the level we showed and with winning the title. Thanks to all the members of the team”.
