USA and Mexico dominate Day1 in Toronto

USA and Mexico made the perfect start on the opening day of the North and Central America qualifiers for the FIP World Cup 2026. At District Padel in Mississauga, just outside Toronto, the USA men’s team claimed a 3-0 tie victory over hosts Canada. Leading the way was American number one Vinny Di Francesco, who, alongside Christopher Humpreys, defeated Victor Krustev and Colin West 6-2 6-3. Another two key members of the national team, Nico Agritelley and Matias Segura, also won 6-2 6-2 against Andrew Bourne and Ilya Tiraspolsky, before Raul Alvarez and Jose De Armas completed the sweep with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Robinson and Bergeron. USA therefore top the standings with two points, followed by Canada on one, while Mexico will make their debut on Saturday at 1 pm local time (7 pm CEST) against the Canadians. The top two teams at the end of the round robin will qualify for the FIP World Cup 2026 in Doha.

It was also a winning start for the Mexico women’s team, who likewise sealed a 3-0 victory over Canada. The tie began with a comeback, as Renata Martinez Becerra and Ana Paula De La Peña Rosas recovered from a set down to defeat Suzana Sales Cavalcante and Paulina Ojeda 4-6 6-2 6-1.
