Marisol Fernandez, a month to remember: from university gold to CUPRA FIP Tour glory in Egypt

From gold in the mixed event at the FISU World University Championship Padel to her first CUPRA FIP Tour title. It has been an unforgettable month for Marisol Fernandez, who, after winning gold alongside Arnau Candelo Casas in Malaga, claimed the FIP Bronze Playa title in Egypt with Ana Sanchez (who also won silver in the women’s event in Malaga). It was an unexpected triumph for the women’s number four seeds, who did not drop a single set throughout the tournament. Among the highlights was their semi-final victory over the top seeds, Raquel Piltcher and Christina Styliani Ntanou (6-4 6-3), followed by a 6-2 6-3 win in the final against Angelina Neizvestnaya and Elsa Terranova. Terranova had partnered Fernandez in reaching the final of the FIP Bronze Piacenza last October.

There was also celebration for Roberto Belmont and Guillem Figuerola, who claimed their second title in a month on the International Padel Federation circuit. After lifting the FIP Silver trophy in Pingyuan, China, the top seeds in the men’s draw defeated Spain’s Adrian Baamonde and Dutch player Jorrit Hazebroek 6-0 6-2 in the final in Egypt. Baamonde and Hazebroek were the surprise pairing of the tournament, reaching their first CUPRA FIP Tour final. It was the winning pair’s second title of the season, following two finals in Australia at the start of the year in the FIP Silver and FIP Bronze events, and another final in the Netherlands last March.
