Cassetta-Oviedo, what a run: another win in Jersey
August 3, 2026
Another outstanding weekend, with a second title as a pair in two tournaments played together. At the FIP Silver Rathbones Island Padel in Jersey, Great Britain, Marco Cassetta and Fabian “Peio” Oviedo secured another victory after last week’s FIP Bronze triumph in Lelystad. It was a high-quality performance from the Italian-Argentine pair, who were perfect from the first match to the last, including a great semi-final against favourites Gonzalo Rubio and Andres Fernandez Lancha, ranked 43rd and 64th respectively in the FIP Ranking. Against the number one seeds, Cassetta and Oviedo earned a deserved 6-3 6-7 6-1 win before advancing to the final against the surprise pairing of the tournament, Spaniards Samuel Alos and Marco Remolina (6-3 6-1). “I am really happy with the way we played in this incredible tournament. You were amazing, Fabian,” said Cassetta, who moved to 16 CUPRA FIP Tour titles with this victory. Oviedo shared his teammate’s happiness: “I am delighted to have won this tournament. It was a weekend where all the work we have been doing was visible. Thank you Marco for your patience and for the commitment you put in.”
The women’s draw followed expectations, with Virginia Riera and Teresa Navarro claiming their fourth title together since the start of the season. The pair conceded just six games in total on their way to the final, where they faced a tough battle against the number four seeds, Monica Gomez and Lucia Peralta, eventually winning in three sets (6-0 3-6 6-3). “Very happy with this victory, great tournament Teresa!” said Riera. “Thank you to everyone in Jersey for the welcome and for making us feel at home. It was a pleasure to play here.” For Navarro, it was a special success: “We deserved this, Virginia. And now we are ready for our last tournament together, London P1,” where they will make their debut on Tuesday against Marta Talavan and Jessica Castelló.
