Bangkok applauds dutch pair: Luttikhuis and Hemmes crowned champions

BANGKOK – Another success in Asia. Following her victory in Kuala Lumpur last April, Dutch player Bo Luttikhuis claimed another title on the continent, winning the FIP Silver High Velocity Bangkok alongside compatriot Janine Hemmes. The Dutch pair defeated Elsa Terranova and Angelina Neizvestnaya (6-4 6-0) in the final, after the latter won the FIP Bronze in Phuket last week. Luttikhuis and Hemmes showed their strength throughout the tournament, conceding just one set to their opponents across the competition (against Victoria Kurz-Patricia Araus in the semi-finals).

The pair of Alvaro Montiel and Gonzalo Rubio triumphed in the men’s draw, defeating No. 2 seeds Ignacio Archieri-Pablo Sanchez 6-3 6-3 in the final. With this victory, Rubio moved to the top of the all-time CUPRA FIP Tour wins list with 17 titles, ahead of Jose Luis Gonzalez, Marco Cassetta and Flavio Abbate on 16. Rubio also completed his Asian hat-trick this season. At the beginning of April, he won the FIP Bronze in Mumbai, India, while at the end of the same month he became champion at the FIP Silver in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. For Montiel, meanwhile, the title in Thailand was his sixth success of the year on the circuit, following victories at the FIP Silver events in Cyprus and Alcalá de Guadaíra, and at the FIP Bronze events in Agadir, Agrigento and Cyprus I and II (all won alongside Flavio Abbate).
