Guimarães, Vilariño takes another win. Zamora completes a Portuguese double this season

GUIMARÃES – The partnership of Nacho Vilariño and Juan ‘Coquito’ Zamora enjoyed a successful weekend in Portugal, winning the FIP Silver Guimarães title. The pair first defeated Aris Patiniotis and Diego Garcia in the semi-finals before overcoming Rama Valenzuela-Dani Santigosa in the final in two sets (7-6 6-2). For Zamora, this was his second title in Portugal this year, having won the FIP Silver in Porto at the end of July. The 18-year-old Spaniard also claimed victory at the FIP Silver in Espoo, Finland, in August. Vilariño, meanwhile, celebrated his fifth title of the season on the CUPRA FIP Tour. “Nacho, you are really strong. Keep it up”, said Zamora after the victory. “Thank you to everyone who came to watch us. Special mention to my whole team for the tireless work they do day after day.”

The winners of the women’s draw in Guimarães were Marta Barrera and Jana Montes, who entered the tournament as the No. 1 seeds. The title came after a final victory over Eugenia Guimet and Aimee Gibson, who arrived at this CUPRA FIP Tour event on the back of their victory in Casablanca. Montes, No. 34 in the world, had already won FIP Silver titles in Caen and Bari this year, while Barrera, No. 27 in the FIP Ranking, claimed the FIP Silver title in Vila Real de Santo António at the beginning of the month. Earlier in the spring, she had also won the FIP Silver titles in Cyprus and Mumbai. “Champions!”, said Montes after the triumph in Guimarães.
