Barahona-Sanchez Blasco defeat top seeds Bergamini-Bautista. Semi-finals and finals set for tomorrow

PERUGIA – After almost two hours of play in front of a large crowd at the ‘Padel Arena Fastweb’, the most closely contested match of the quarter-final day at the FIP Gold Mediolanum Padel Cup in Perugia came to an end. Javi Barahona and Maxi Sanchez Blasco, ranked 36 and 37 respectively in the FIP Ranking, produced the result of the day by defeating the tournament’s No. 1 seeds, Jairo Bautista and Lucas Bergamini (3-6 7-6 6-4). After losing the first set, the Spanish pair responded strongly, winning the second in a tie-break and controlling the third. Barahona once again confirmed the strong connection he has developed with the city of Perugia during his career, having already won two CUPRA FIP Tour titles there: one in 2025 and the other in 2023.
In the semi-finals, Barahona and Sanchez Blasco will face Spaniards Jose Jimenez (28)-Alex Arroyo (29), who defeated Juani Rubini-Ignacio Piotto 6-4 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Jimenez and Arroyo also reached the semi-finals at the most recent FIP Gold event, held in São Paulo, Brazil. The other semi-final will see Argentine legend Sanyo Gutierrez, alongside compatriot Alex Chozas, take on Iñigo Jofre and Juanlu Esbri. Gutierrez and Chozas defeated Alex Ruiz-Javi Garcia (6-2 7-6) in the quarter-finals, while Jofre-Esbri prevailed 7-5 6-2 against Javi Ruiz and Jesus Moya.
WOMEN’S The quarter-final victories of Italian players Carolina Orsi and Giulia Dal Pozzo were among the highlights of the women’s competition. Orsi, alongside Spaniard Patty Llaguno, defeated Italian Carlotta Casali and Nerea Guerra (6-1 6-3). Their semi-final opponents will be Raquel Eugenio and Jimena Velasco, one of the most promising pairs on the CUPRA FIP Tour and winners of the FIP Gold in São Paulo, who defeated Giorgia Rosi and Maria Delgado (6-4 6-1) in the quarter-finals. Dal Pozzo and Nuria Rodriguez – semi-finalists together at the Italy Major Premier Padel and the P2 in Valladolid – reached the final by defeating Clarissa Aima and Caterina Baldi 6-2 6-0. In the semi-finals, they will face No. 1 seeds Veronica Virseda and Martina Fassio, who defeated Daniela Portilla-Claudia Ordoñez (6-0 6-3) in their quarter-final.
SUNDAY’S SCHEDULE A total of six matches will be played on the final day of the FIP Gold Mediolanum Padel Cup Perugia. The two women’s semi-finals will open the programme from 9:30 am local time and will be played simultaneously. They will be followed by the two men’s semi-finals. Then, not before 3:30 pm local time, the women’s final will be played. Once this match has concluded, the men’s final will follow. Sunday’s matches on the Central Court will be streamed live on the FIP YouTube channel.
