Melilla, Day3. Bautista and Bergamini, what a comeback! Finals day: titles and FIP Race points at stake

It’s finals day at the FIP Gold in Melilla. Before heading to Kuwait, where the third Major of the year gets under way on Sunday, four pairs will take to the court in Spain to compete for the titles and 150 FIP Race points that could prove decisive in a month’s time in the run to qualify for the Premier Padel Finals. In the women’s draw, the top two seeds will face each other: Veronica Virseda and Martina Fassio on one side, Raquel Eugenio and Bea Caldera on the other. Virseda and Fassio beat Lorena Rufo and Victoria Iglesias (3) in straight sets, winning 6-3 6-3, while Eugenio and Caldera needed three sets to overcome Nuria Rodriguez and Giulia Dal Pozzo, winning 7-5 3-6 6-3.

The men’s final will feature the number 1 and 3 seeds. Juan Tello and Maxi Arce beat Felipe Calleja and Jaume Romera 6-2 6-4 to give themselves the chance to close the gap on Javi Leal, currently 16th in the Race. To make further progress, however, they will have to beat Jairo Bautista and Lucas Bergamini, who came from a set down to defeat Edu Alonso and Aimar Goñi 6-7 6-4 6-3 in the other semi-final. The FIP Gold Melilla finals will be streamed live on the FIP YouTube channel.
